Twelve years ago, PCEA Milimani South Presbytery did not exist as its own body. It was hived off from the larger Milimani Presbytery on 8th December 2013 and began its own operations in January 2014 with seven parishes and one outreach area. Today it is a Presbytery of 8 parishes, 34 congregations, and 168 active elders, spread across the peri-urban landscapes of Nairobi, Kiambu, and Kajiado counties. How the Presbytery Began

PCEA Milimani South Presbytery was hived from the larger Milimani Presbytery on 8th December 2013 and started its own operations on 6th January 2014. It is one of nine presbyteries that make up the wider Nairobi Region of the Presbyterian Church of East Africa. The Presbytery sits in a peri-urban setting, covering parts of Nairobi, Kiambu, and Kajiado counties, with its physical offices located at PCEA Riruta Satellite Church.

From Seven Parishes to Eight

At inception, the Presbytery comprised seven parishes plus one integrated outreach area:

In November 2022, Karen Parish was subdivided into two — Karen West Parish and Karen Central Parish — bringing the Presbytery to its current count of 8 parishes, still alongside the Namanga Nendeni Area. Each of the 8 parishes today is served by its own Parish Secretary/Administrator, Evangelist, Youth Coordinator, and Children’s Ministry Coordinator.

Across its 8 parishes and the Namanga Nendeni Area, the Presbytery now counts 34 congregations in total — with the Namanga Nendeni Area alone responsible for 17 of them, reflecting its wide rural outreach footprint stretching toward the Kenya–Tanzania border region.

A Growing Eldership

The Presbyterian model of church government is built around the office of the elder, and the numbers reflect a Presbytery that has steadily raised up leaders alongside its congregations. At inception, the Presbytery had 136 active elders and 48 retired elders. Today, it counts 168 active elders and 74 retired elders — growth in both serving leadership and the generation that has stepped back after years of service.
